History Of The Club

Ngee Ann Polytechnic Strings and Guitar ensemble (NPS) was established in 1992 by Mr.Gan See Wee, with the goal of promoting classical music amongst students. The club started out with a meagre 10 members and has since developed progressively to lots of members currently.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic Strings has performed at many outdoor events and functions. The main annual events are Virtuoso and Family concert. Other than performances, Ngee Ann Polytechnic Strings also organises various activities like the annual Music camp and Tea party to facilitate more bonding and a sense of unity between the club's members.

And to facilitate our new members, we also organise Guitar/Strings Fairs where we bring guitar/strings products and accessories to our club from vendors like Synwin, Maestro Guitars etc. This is to give them an opportunity to try and test the instruments with ease and also buy them at more affordable prices.

In the year 2006, Niibori Guitar was introduced to our club and has also played the instrument for the first time during our Virtuoso 13th Concert.

The club also aims to further inspire the club members to strive to bring the club to greater heights and to further enhance the reputation of Ngee Ann Strings by constantly performing at various functions outside school, which would bring greater glory to Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

See you guise soon!

HEY PEEPS! SCHOOL IS REOPENING SOON! AND SO ARE PRACTICES!
Ok. Practices will resume next week. Guitar side wont have any changes i pressume. But as I said during the AGM, there will be changes for Strings Freshies. All intermediate strings classes WILL BE ON THURSDAY! I repeat, ALL INTERMEDIATE STRINGS CLASSES WILL BE ON THURSDAY! As you can see, I said intermediates. That means you freshies have been promoted to Intermediates. So buck up and practise more ok? Cos we will be pumping you with lots and lots of new pieces. Ok all that said, I have already splitted you all into your respective classes.

Intermediate Beginner Class (5pm-7pm)
1. Tan Hui Fang
2. Yar Yi ping
3. George Tan Kee Leung
4. Raynard Koh Fong Wei
5. Matthew Han
6. Liu Chen Chuan
7. Tan Li Ting Leanne
8. Oo Shi Yun Viviana Fequira
9. Chan Chee Yee
10. Gladys Goh

Intermediate Advanced Class (5pm-7pm)
1. Melissa Wijaya
2. Ong Zhi Hui
3. Tee Wei Ling
4. Stozer Chan Jun Sheng
5. Sherene Tan
6. Neo Boon Yik Sadie

Ok these are the people in their respective classes. The people who have gotten Distinction will join the main ensemble straightaway. But that does not mean the people in the Intermediate Beginner/Advanced Class no need to attend. Everyone will still have to attend the Main Ensemble Combine Practice (7.30pm-9.30pm). This is to help you guys to have more practice time and for you to bond with each other and the seniors more.

Also, I know many of you will complain about having classes on thursday. So I will address that issue now. Thursday and Saturday are the two days for Main Ensemble Practices. The reason why you had the luxury of choosing your own day during the NPS orientation was because you were only a freshie then. But now, you are an Intermediate player that's part of the Main Ensemble. So I expect you all to set aside time for this CCA. I want you all to show commitment and good attitude towards this CCA that you have chosen. Even if you are to complain that you are still Year 1 and you should have the right to choose other days, then what about Year 2 and 3? The reason why I am implementing this now is so that you can take some time to adjust and adapt to the new timing. I hope that you people can compromise and set aside time for this commitment.

AND FOR ALL PEOPLE! VIRTUOSO IS COMING SOON IN 6 MORE MONTHS OR SO! SO PLEASE COME FOR PRACTICES!!!

*For Strings Seniors*
Seniors please make it a point to come down on Saturday for Kong and Ma's lesson. They are really good teachers and I am VERY SURE MOST OF YOU NEED HELP FROM THEM. So please come down for Saturday practices. Also, Strings Freshies, if you are interested on what we do during Saturday Practices, just come down and join us. Time is from 12.30pm to 4pm. This lesson is briefly about the instructors helping us hone our skills.

SEE YOU ALL SOON!
A BELATED MERRY CHRISTMAS

AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)
Wei Li
