History Of The Club

Ngee Ann Polytechnic Strings and Guitar ensemble (NPS) was established in 1992 by Mr.Gan See Wee, with the goal of promoting classical music amongst students. The club started out with a meagre 10 members and has since developed progressively to lots of members currently.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic Strings has performed at many outdoor events and functions. The main annual events are Virtuoso and Family concert. Other than performances, Ngee Ann Polytechnic Strings also organises various activities like the annual Music camp and Tea party to facilitate more bonding and a sense of unity between the club's members.

And to facilitate our new members, we also organise Guitar/Strings Fairs where we bring guitar/strings products and accessories to our club from vendors like Synwin, Maestro Guitars etc. This is to give them an opportunity to try and test the instruments with ease and also buy them at more affordable prices.

In the year 2006, Niibori Guitar was introduced to our club and has also played the instrument for the first time during our Virtuoso 13th Concert.

The club also aims to further inspire the club members to strive to bring the club to greater heights and to further enhance the reputation of Ngee Ann Strings by constantly performing at various functions outside school, which would bring greater glory to Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Maestro Master Class 2008

NP Strings & Maestro Guitar Masterclass 2008


Hello everyone!

We are delighted to inform you that there will be Guitar Masterclass held by Maestro

in the first week when school reopens. You will get the opportunity to

learn more about the guitar, re-string of guitar and how to maintain them. This

knowledge is essential in order for you to become a true guitarist. Hope to see all of

you there! And of course, CCA points will be awarded for attendance =)

Venue: Music Room

Time: Report at 6pm

(pls note that the Guitar Masterclass is compulsory for all Guitar Members!)


Last but not least, there will be a buffet too! So do make yourself free aite?

Solo/Group Auditions for Virtuoso 15th

Hello!

Dear fellow NPS comrades! As well many of you should have known, we’ll be having a large scale concert next year, the Virtuoso XV. It’ll be the 15th year that Virtuoso has stepped into and it has always been the annual highlight of the year for NPS. The concert not only comprises of the main ensemble performance, it would also has individual showcase of talents in small groups or as soloist.

This year, I would want to encourage people with aspirations and skills to perform in the concert as soloist or small group performers. Small group performers would include duet, trio, quartet and so on. Scores can be arranged or modified by the members themselves. In addition, since NPStrings is a combination of both guitar and strings instrument, it is highly advisable and encouraged that small group performance would include guitar with violin, viola or cello.

I would like to urge all of you to find your group members and pieces in this holiday and start learning and practicing for the Virtuoso Concert next year. There would be an audition for small groups and soloists in either March or April and the actual concert would be held in either May or June.

Also, this is open to all members and not just the seniors. Freshies or new members who are keen in performing or trying it out are welcome too! There’s no reason that your skills are not up to standard or that it is only for seniors. As long as you prepare yourself, you share an equal chance in performing in this major concert!
